Nag

There is one (or more...) things I don't particularly enjoy about being a mother. Lately I am so tired of having to ask my kids again, and again, and again to do the same things.

Turn off the light... Shut the door... Throw your trash away... Put your laundry in the hamper... Don't whine... If you make a mess, clean it up.......... (you know the drill).

And to add to my nagging repertoire, I was recently called to be the visiting teaching coordinator. Now, not only do I get to remind my kids to do things they already know they should be doing, I get to remind the relief society ladies to do their visiting teaching. What fun!

(But seriously, how do you get your kids to do what they should do without nagging? And do you have any suggestions on how I can be a good VT coordinator without being the ward nag?)

I have the same problem with my kids!! I'd like to know the answer too. I don't remember my parents having such a hard time with us!? I'd like to hear any insight too...as everything I have tried does not work!

I don't call it nagging, I call it continuous teaching. It's always a good thing to teach your children!! :) After awhile, they really do catch on.

Oh, I think that's one of the hardest callings I've ever had! You start out trying to be a positive cheerleader, when really inside you want to give them a guilt trip! Plus, with my phone anxieties, it got difficult.

Umm...sorry that was a pessimistic comment! I'm sure you'll be great, and you'll probably get 100% visting teaching! :)Gooooooo Jessi!

I hear ya--Nagging is one of my least favorite, yet most frequent, parenting 'obligations'.

And, I like that our VT coordinator sends out one or two emails a month to remind everybody (along with some lessong helps/hints).

please tell me the second you get the nagging thing figured out. It drives me nuts to tell them the same things every day.
I don't know if it will work but we have been making chore charts for the kids - those don't work either - so we decided to photograph the kids doing their jobs. Even the regular stuff, so at least instead of nagging I just have to refer them to the sheet. That should be a little less irritating. So they took pictures of themselves sweeping, flushing the toilet, etc. All the things they are supposed to do and all the things they regularly forget to do.

I think the only thing we can all do is commiserate with you! Bribery usually works pretty good -- {"I'll give you a skittle (1) if you'll...) they end up getting 5-10 a day... not bad considering it got the job done (and i just have to make sure to brush their teeth real good at night!) but even so I have to ask 3x before they'll do it sometimes... and it wears.me.out! having a 6,3 and year and a half old is pretty tiring and they're not much help... but they can do little things.

I wish I knew the answer. After repeatedly telling my kids to put theri shoes on so we could go Aaron said, "don't nag them". And I stopped and thought about it- I didn't even realize I was doing it. How else do I get them to do things? I'd better figure it out.

Think of it this way. We hear the same things over and over all through our Church learning experiences. Why? because it takes a life time to finally get it. It is our lot as mothers to keep reminding and "nagging" when necessary. We just have to keep it as positive as possible but yes, it does get old. Just think how frustrated our Heavenly Parents can be with us?

I came back to your blog and had to tell you, HOW MUCH I LOVE THAT PICTURE of the NAGGING BIRD. I need to hang that somewhere so I remember what I look like while Nagging. SO Funny!!!
