Mama's girl

I haven't dropped off the earth. I've just been having way too much fun to sit down and blog. Last Thursday morning I flew to Oregon (by MYSELF!) to visit my parents. It was a pre-baby #5 vacation and I soaked up every minute. And I could not have chosen a better destination. It was like going to a Bed & Breakfast where I was the only guest.

My Dad was unfortunately out of town most of the time I was visiting, so my Mom and I had to entertain ourselves. (Which we had very little problem doing.) We went to the quilt shop, yarn shop, sewed the star blocks for Lydia's quilt, went shopping for some more maternity clothes, watched movies, ate lunch out by their backyard waterfall, and had a fabulous time doing all the things we like. It was wonderful and I only wish we had more opportunities to spend time like that together. I am totally home-sick for my Mom now.

My Dad was able to join us on Saturday for a fun outing to the coast. We drove through Florence to Cape Perpetua where we stopped at the visitors center. There we went on a beautiful 2-mile hike through an old-growth forest to a giant spruce tree.

We also drove through the little town of Yachats where we stopped at a very quaint, very "Oregon" deli for lunch. (Anyone that has been to Oregon knows that there is a distinct Oregon vibe that you have to experience to understand.) I'm so glad that my Dad was able to spend that day with us. It was one of the highlights of the vacation!!!

The last day I was in town we were able to get together with my friend, Andrea, for lunch. She was one of my very first friends when we moved to Oregon when I was ten years old and it was so much fun catching up with her.

I took the red-eye home Tuesday night and got home Wednesday morning to find that David had painted and re-arranged our bedroom while I was gone. It was an awesome surprise!!!

Now I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. David was a trooper while I was gone and it's great being reunited with him and my girls. But I do so miss my parents now. My idea of heaven is having all of my family together at the same time.

That sounds so great! I got to go see my parents last december and I will definitely do that again! There is nothing like having your family around to tell you how amazing and beautiful and talented, etc, etc. you are. It's good for the old self-esteem! :)

How fun, what a great vacation. I was reading your post and thinking, "you should have called Andrea, she would have loved to see you". Then I saw that you did get together. How fun.

How fun that you were able to go on a trip by yourself. I can hardly imagine. And it looks like you had a great time. Tell Dave he's awesome for taking care of the kids and finding time to paint. Way to go!
