One step at a time

I am a very goal-oriented person, but I strongly dislike New Years resolutions. The list of things I want to accomplish or improve is practically endless, so trying to sit down and determine all of the things I want to do for an entire year becomes overwhelming and quite discouraging. So, this year I am doing things a little differently.... In addition to my general New Years resolutions I am going to set very specific monthly goals. My New Years goals include long-term challenges and my monthly goals will include the steps required to accomplish them, in addition to other things I feel motivated to work on during that month. Hopefully this way I'll remain focused on my goals but without feeling like they are weighing me down. (It's a lot easier to commit to doing something for a month than it is for an entire year!)

The New Years Resolutions I have set for the year are:
1. Finish reading Book of Mormon as a family.
2. Build up savings.
3. 100% Visiting Teaching
4. Buid up food storage.
5. Stay physically fit.
6. Finish at least one quilt.

My January goals are:
1. Get organized.
*Create system to display and archive photographs
* Organize girls' closets & drawers
* Take steps toward creating craft/office space in basement.
* Prepare space for food storage in basement.
2. Prepare to run 10K on February 9.
3. Finish the book of Jacob in the Book of Mormon.
4. Do visiting teaching by Jan. 25.
5. Get quilt tops quilted.
6. Bind quilts for Humanitarian Aid project.
7. No sweets 5 days/week.
8. One-on-one mother/daughter date with each of girls.
9. Review budget and determine how much to save per month.

I think I can do it!

I like that - month by month goals. I am doing the no sweets thing too, but I am doing it 4 days a week. I've already started and I am looking forward to Monday - the next day I can treat myself!

I find that my most important goals remain basically the same year to year. I like the monthly idea for the things that are project type goals.

And if you don't do it all, it's okay, because you did as much as you could, and February is a new month, "with no mistakes in it...yet." :) Love you!!

Great goals! For some reason however, the word 'goal' is a negative for me. I need to call them 'things I want to do'. Then I'm totally motivated!

This could have been me : I like to have four areas to work on.
Spiritual
physical
Financial
Temporal
Good Luck... I love to plan, you remind me of me so much..

This is a great idea!! I like to simplify. So this is good. Each month tackle some things and then move on.
