Pioneer Day

In honor of Pioneer Day I had all sorts of plans. We were going to get up early and have "johnny cakes" for breakfast, make homemade bread, have a pioneer scavenger hunt, read stories from our pioneer ancestors, and cook outside. But then I had to go to the dentist today to get a crown on my tooth and just didn't feel like doing any of that. But we DID wear the "pioneer" aprons I made while we built pretzel log homes.

Happy Pioneer Day!!!

I don't know how you do it!! Your girls are lucky for such a fun mom! Man, I haven't done one thing! I don't think I even told the kids it was July 14th, Pioneer Day. :( We had the carpet guy finish the job today and I have been cleaning! Maybe next year I will be able to get more into it.
We did teach them the other day about Pioneer Day though! :) Is that good??

What cute girls and what cute aprons!!!!! They will be keepsakes forever!

So sorry about the dental crisis! Just keep your itinerary for today, and use it next year. You will have everything planned out ready to go.

At least you had good plans! I am like Shana - I forgot about it. Thanks for letting us join in on your fog log cabin activity!

The only thought that crossed my mind was a lot of people in Utah had the day off! But I do remember staying with you guys once when you lived in Kaysville and we went to the parade in SLC. And it was a lot of fun. Totally random memory but a good one none the less. I'm going to copy some of those ideas for next year. You are way creative. Keep on posting these ideas on your blogs.

And very cute aprons indeed!

I was so sad today to not be in Panguitch celebrating the biggest holiday in that town! Pioneer day is the best. I should have done more with my girls. I forgot that I could do that on my own, without the parade, rodeo, breakfast and fireworks! How sad is that?

p.s. my blogg is called Ashleigh's Place. Could you check it out some time?

Is Pioneer Day related to a church celebration or a national related day?

"Fog log cabin" building. Man, you are soooo creative. Your kids are lucky. I can only imagine what pretzels and fog eventually end up looking like. ;)
Just kidding Audge!

And what are "johnny cakes"? Pancakes? Sorry for my Pioneer day ignorance and subsequent questions.

You are ambitious. I need you for ideas. We made jam. I am pretty sure we did not wear aprons though. The boys would have thrown a fit. Happy Pioneer Day.

Pioneer Day is a Utah State holiday commemorating when the pioneers first came into the Salt Lake Valley. It's a big deal. :)

And yes, johnny cakes are pancakes (very special pancakes).
