A made bed

I am realizing more and more that it is the little things that make a difference in life- little things like a made bed. It is amazing how more able I am to tackle the day when my bed is made. I'm not perfect in this aspect because some days I get up and going without pausing to take care of this seemingly non-essential task, but I feel the difference when I skip it. The same goes for making my kids beds. This summer their morning responsibilities included tidying their room and making their bed before we could go swimming. It was a great feeling to walk into their rooms and see things neat and in order (at least by 5 and 7 year old standards). Now that they are in school I have taken over the job of bed making and kind of enjoy the daily routine of going in and doing this one chore for them. It reminds me of my own parents. My Mom almost always made my bed, and during my senior year of high school while my Dad was home, he made my bed. I don't quite go as far as to prohibit sitting on a made bed like Marilla Cuthbert did, but I sure enjoy the feeling it gives to have this one thing made right in the morning.

I've thought about this, too! I've wondered what it is about a made bed that makes me feel like I'm more on top of things, that I have more control over how my day is going to go. Funny. That's cool to know that you feel the same!
