My Girls

On Sunday night one of my friends asked me to describe my kids, and besides the usual adjectives I had a hard time painting a clear picture of what their personalities are really like. So, I determined to put together a description of each one of them that will hopefully give those of you who don't know them a good idea of what they are like. It will also serve as a comparative for when they get older. When my kids act certain ways I often wonder, "Was I like that?" Hopefully this list will be a point of reference for when they have to answer that question themselves.

My McKenna girl is sweet and sensitive. She is very affectionate, always insisting on hugs and kisses before leaving or going to bed. She is painfully shy, especially when it comes to speaking in front of groups, but is articulate and poised when she is forced to overcome that fear. She is a rule-follower, preferring to have set agendas rather than uncertainty. She loves being with her few close friends, and is often at a loss for how to entertain herself without her friends. She is easily disappointed, often insecure, and emotionally volatile. She is project-oriented, organized, and very literal. She is slightly pigeon-toed (like her dad) and has great hand-eye coordination (like her dad). She hates being teased.

Lydia (or Lydie-bug) is exceptionally mature for her age. She is my helper and is wonderful with her little sisters (although she does sometimes ask why I always ask her to do "everything"). She is full of life, emotionally intense, and easily embarassed. She is a pleaser and very sensitive of criticism. She likes to be the center of attention but is very conscious of her short-comings. She is graceful and almost sultry. She is observant (she can beat almost anyone in "Memory" by hardly paying attention) and sensitive. She is somewhat of a home-body, preferring to have her friends come here instead of going to their house. She likes to be the leader. She is a tease.

Emily Anne is our "girly girl". She only wears dresses and loves playing dress-up and tea party. She is our little performer and is almost always singing. She is very independent. She doesn't like help and will often entertain herself for hours. She is a mess-maker, getting into things she is not supposed to (at least lately). She is ultra-sensitive and doesn't like to be chastised. She can be a drama queen. She is soft and cuddly. She is little Miss Personality. Whenever she speaks she is extremely animated. She loves to pray.

Summer loves being "one of the girls." She is very playful and happy, but does hava a bad temper. She doesn't like to be controlled. She can be a little rascal, and sometimes has fun being naughty. She is ear-piercingly LOUD when she wants to voice discontent, but is sweet and mellow when she is satisfied. She is soooooooo cute we sometimes can't help grabbing her up and squeezing her. She likes to play with her phone and baby dolls. At one and a half she isn't afraid to declare that she is a force to be reckoned with.
