Red lipstick and pearls

Of late I have not been feeling exactly pretty. Spotty skin, a less-than-stellar haircut, and spreading hips have all combined forces and left me a little down about my looks. (Which wasn't helped by seeing myself in pictures from Adam's wedding!) This morning when I woke up I was tempted to stay in my pj's and not waste the effort of trying to improve myself. But I knew that wouldn't make me feel any better. So, with as little effort as possible I tried to pull myself together. I put on a little mascara, styled my hair into a bun, chose a cute (and comfortable!) dress, and put on red lipstick and pearls. And for the first time in a while I felt pretty. And I've got to tell you.... it felt good.

(**after re-reading this post this morning I feel like I have to clarify. I promise I wasn't fishing for compliments. My point was to celebrate the little feminine touches that make being a woman fun , and that taking a little time for yourself doesn't have to be a huge effort. I know I'm not ugly, but we all go through periods where we feel less attractive. Yesterday the red lipstick and pearls, paired with a very minimal beauty routine, helped remind me that just by virtue of being feminine I was beautiful. We all are. And it's that knowledge that feels good.)

I don't know what you are talking about. You have been looking good the whole time. And I thought you looked spectacular at Adam's wedding. Your hair, dress, and makeup was just so perfect. Can you not see that? Are you blind? Anyway, you are always beautiful.

Love, love that picture of you!

Oh you are still hot. And you can't get discouraged already. It is going to get worse, much much worse - but all for a good cause. I can't even see my toes lately, so Sydney tried giving me a very ticklish pedicure the other day to lift my spirits!

It's funny how some of the most simple things can make you feel pretty! I bought myself a couple new t-shirts and some earings to match the other day, and I tell you, just those few simple additions to my wardrobe just made me feel good! The pretty, fresh colors of the shirts with the matching earings were just the pick me up I needed!

I love the picture. I agree that a little femininety (sp?) goes a long way for our mood. Your a so cute.

ps. I love the girl post. It makes me happy. I love that you love having another girl. I know that if we had more kids it would also be another girl. I do love pink. I have a whole PINK load of laundry. Congratulations.!!!

Congrats on the baby girl! That's so sweet.

Isn't it amazing how just taking the sweats/t-shirts off and doing yourself up can really make you feel better?

You do look so pretty! And you make an adorable pregnant woman! But I so understand the pregnant blues you get about your body image. I am living that right now too! Just think it is only for a small moment and then you get the most beautiful baby to bless your life forever! Totally worth it! :-)
