Helpless

(Audra took this picture of Grandma in 2005)
On Sunday my sister, Abbi, called to let us know that our Grandma had fallen and broken her back. It was heartbreaking news. And the grief was compounded by the fact that I feel totally helpless. They are in Utah and we are in Georgia. I know that prayers are affective at any distance, but does anyone have any other ideas of what we can do to lend our comfort and support from so far away?

That's so hard! It can be so hard being far away from loved ones when they need help. I will keep her in my prayers too.

BTW.... Does Adam have a date yet for his wedding? Are they getting married in Utah or somewhere else?

I read about your Gma on Abbi's blog. My goodness, poor thing! I love to make cards and send them. Then atleast it is something personal and they know you are thinking of them. Or send flowers to brighten their day. Just a thought.

Oh, that is terrible! What about sending good books to read while she is recovering? For sure have your kids all make cards and include their pictures...that would brighten anyone's day.

Hmmmm, that's tough when you're so far away. Do you know that VTs are helping with meals or do you know any of her neighbors?

How aweful! I'm so sorry! Besides a phone call, I agree with making cards. I used to paint my own personalized cards and give them to people. It's not much, but it lets them know you care.

I'm flying to Utah tomorrow. Would you like me to swing by and offer a hand?

Jess, I am sure she would love to see any pictures you girls colored! And she is doing quite well, so don't worry too much. Yesterday when I was visiting her, she told a nurse in her room, "I've been at church all day and I think I may need to go back tonight." :) I think the Lord is definitely blessing her during this time!

Its so hard to be away from family at all let alone when something bad happens. Maybe since she probably won't be able to move around for awhile, a care package would be nice. Pictures, sweet treats you can only get from Georgia, really good magazines or articles she might like to read, burn a CD of some music she might like. I hope she feels better and you too.
