Money matters

10 Things I Will SPLURGE on:

1. Tylex soap scum bathroom cleaner-- nothing else works as well

2. Bounty paper towels-- you can rinse them and ring them out a couple times, so I figure I actually save money by buying the good stuff!

3. Ground turkey-- I actually don't know if it is a splurge or not because I've never compared it with ground beef. But, I buy it anyway!

4. "Great Grains" cereal-- the generic is not the same

5. G2 pens-- thanks, Abbi!

6. Dinners Out-- never at any gourmet places (because I don't really like them), but a night at Chile's, Olive Garden, Moe's or Outback is worth the money every time!

7. Leather couches-- I'm hoping mine last for a while.

8. A good mattress-- a good night's rest?? Priceless!!

9. Honda Odyssey-- my dream car!

10. Riding lawnmower-- every penny we spent was worth the extra time we get to spend with David on Saturdays!

10 things I buy CHEAP:

1. Diapers-- I used to buy the Pampers Cruisers because they are the BEST, but the cheap ones have worked, and are SO MUCH LESS money!!!!!

2. Decorations-- why would I? There are so many cute things available for not much money!

3. Toilet Paper-- not the 1 ply stuff, but a couple steps up. I can't justify the quilted fancy paper yet.

4. Hair color-- I'm a DIY girl and haven't have any horror stories that couldn't be fixed.... yet.

5. Fabric-- I'm a sucker for Joann's 40% off calicos sale & 99 cent fat quarters (although I have discovered a quilt shop near me and am sorely tempted!)

6. Kid clothes (actually, clothes in general!!!)-- they add up!!!

7. Cell phone-- I use David's hand-me-downs and borrow minutes from his plan.

8. Books-- that's what the library is for! (and books I do buy I try and get discount).

9. Jewlery-- I'm just not that into fancy jewlery (except for my wedding ring, which is still lost).

10. Cereal-- I try and keep it at around 10 cents an ounce or $2.00 a box (with a couple exceptions).

I also realized I would rather go without something than spend money on something that isn't exactly what I want.

I also learned tonight that people in my sister's ward spend $10!!!! an hour for babysitting. Is that crazy to anyone else??

As far as the babysitting thing goes. I have spent that much. This girl was AWESOME and she drove herself to my house. However she has gone to college and her replacement is 13. So I usually pay around 6 or 7. Thus the reason we don't use babysitters very often.

Interesting list! I'm right there with you on most things you wrote! There are some things you can splurge on and there are some things that don't matter so much!

I didn't know you had been converted to G-2s! That makes me so happy! I still always have a G-2 on me, and I think they actually aren't that big of a splurge for me, because since I take such good care of them, I don't lose them and so I don't have to keep buying more packages of cheap pens.

Yes. That's why we don't hire them! Let's continue to switch off, ok!

I can't justify paying that much for a babysitter. Unless they were older and really good, but in our neighborhood we just have younger kids mostly. I think 2 bucks a kid per hour is good.

Now I'm going to have to go try a g2 and see what all the fuss is about!

Here in Texas, the ground turkey is cheaper than the lean beef. And it's really good!

Have you ever tried craigslist.com? I love that place. I get so much stuff (furniture, clothes, toys) through it for totally cheap.
