How to...

When we first moved into our house the first thing I wanted were ferns for my front porch. I went to Home Depot, chose the fullest, most beautiful ferns I could find and promptly hung them on my porch. They were beautiful....for about two weeks. Then they started to die. I was so upset! By the end of the summer they were dry, brown, and ugly. It was embarassing. I talked to my Mom about it and discovered what had gone wrong. So, for the sake of anyone out there who has tried without success to take care of Boston ferns, here is the secret.
WATER THEM!!!!!

They need to be watered almost every day (at least in Georgia). I use my 2 quart pitcher. They also need plant food. Miracle Grow is easy because I just mix it in when I water (did I mention you need to water every day??). Ferns also like to be misted with a spray bottle. Sometimes I mix a little Miracle Grow in with the water because it feeds through the leaves as well as the roots.

And there you have it!! How to grow big, beautiful ferns. (water them.... every day).

And they look soooo beautiful on your porch! And with my experience with growing and taking care of plants, I had to take notes from this blog.:)

I am so bad with plants. I forget to water them. Luckily my herbs are doing well so far.

You are an excellent gardener! Thanks to you, now many ferns that would otherwise have expired will live long and luxuriantly (sp??) green lives!

I'm terrible with plants! Yours look great. Forgetting to water them is my specialty! Do Ferns do the best in humid climates? I wonder how well it would do here.
