Yesterday I had some "alone" time and I did what I always do... go to the library. Walking up and down the aisles, browsing the many volumes of books is so soothing to me. In the library there is such a feeling of potential. Potential books to read and potential for knowledge. I used to dream of having a library in my home. I wanted it stocked with the "best books", but I think I've changed my philosophy. I still do want a library, but it will only be comprised of my favorites. Books that have particular meaning to me and my family. And to find those books I'll continue to support our local library.
I also like the idea of books being available to the community at large. Having spent time on an extremely limited budget, the library was my haven where the whole world was available to me. I could go and check out as many books as I wanted, indulge in their stories, and not pay a dime. In the library I felt equal to everyone else.
I've also felt a great sense of community in the library. You can sense the pulse of the community within the library. When we lived in Oregon there were always petitioners or protesters at the library doors. At BYU there was an electric current of stress and excitement (especially at 11:45pm when the music came on). In Georgia the library is about story-time and garden club displays. And I almost NEVER go to the library without running into someone I know.
I LOVE the library.
What places do YOU love?????

I love scrapbook stores (and scrapbook conventions). I love furniture stores. I love being at mom and dad's, but that's not a quick trip!
The sandvolleyball courts of any park. If there is anyone playing, I always look at Dale and bed to play at least one game.
Bed should be beg. I know you knew that.
I too love the Library, but don't get there often enough! I also love the mountains!!!!!!!!
I think your blog needs to be used as an advertisement for libraries! Well said!
Of course fabric stores are some of my favorite places to visit. I also love our back yard now. I could stare at it for hours!
I love libraries, but not so much now that I usually have at least one loud little boy in tow. If I can go alone, that's the best. My second favorite place to visit is a nursery or hardware store with garden center. But that just tempts me to spend money, so libraries are best. (And I want a library in my future home too!:)
