I am a big fan of sleep, so every once in a while I let my girls have a few extra minutes of shut-eye before waking them up for school-- with the assumption that they will hurry and get ready once they are up. I am realizing this is not a good idea. It's my new theory that kids need time to dawdle, even if it means a little less sleep. Our days start so much better when I'm able to wake them up slowly, give them time to complete the morning routine, and then take a slow and leisurely walk to the bus. On the way to the bus we love to look at the clouds, explore what kind of critters may be stranded in the street, and simply be slow getting there. The rest of their lives will be rushed. I think it is a good idea to let them dawdle during childhood.

Time to Dawdle

I am also a big fan of sleeping in. I have found that being vigilant with bed time is also critical. They can be soooo ornery when they don't get to bed on time. I sometimes find the opposite from you. I think it is because my children look at the clock the second they wake up. They know how much time they have and when there is a little they quickly get ready and we find ourselves trying to pass time until carpool comes. When they see that they have time to dawdle they are always rushing last minute to get ready. I have put the clock in the kitchen ahead 5 minutes and it seems to help.
I feel the exact same way!! I have noticed that if we are in a huge hurry to get out the door I get mad at the kids because they are being "too slow" and the day is not a good one!! I am more onery at everything. So yes, I think that the days goes so much more smoother if I wake them up earlier so they have more time to get ready. :)
That is so true! Thanks for the reminder. I stress out about Mornings because there isn't much time to dawdle and getting a 3 year old, 1 year old and 5 year old out the door by 7:50 is something I am still trying to master!
Oh and Jessi: I got those tulips from Costco for only $9 something. :) I love them and they are still looking gorgeous!
Sounds fabulous! Only problem I have with it...Dave was out of town this week, so I let the girls sleep in on Thursday and Amelia ended up missing school completely! Oh well, it was a fun day of pajamas until 10 and playing all day long!
Your girls will have such happy memories of growing up because of the way you help them enjoy their time!
