I recently compiled a list of books I have recently read, along with a list of books that have been recommended, and I am feeling a little overwhelmed. In the library of congress there are an estimated 17 MILLION books. If I read a book a month for the next 50 years I will only read 600 titles. Even if I double or triple that I won't be able to make a dent in all the available literature. No wonder we are counseled to search out the "best books." So, in order to prioritize my list I am enlisting YOUR help. What are the best books you have read?? (And if you want a copy of my list I will gladly share it!)

That is a big question. Let me think about it for a while. But you know that most everything I have read, you have read too. I can't keep up with you speedy readers!
"The Hiding Place", "Children of the Promise", "These Is My Words". They are all recommendations from you. I did like "Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance" by Herman Wouk. And I liked "The Chosen" by Chaim Potok. I loved "Out of the Dust" and "To Kill a Mockingbird." I read the condensed version of "Les Miserables" and really loved it. (You read the whole thing - WOW!) I will add to my list as I think of them.
I want your list! I need to make my own...it seems like an overwhelming, but fun task.
Hey Jess! I think we probably have read and enjoyed the same books, but here is a list of books I've been recommended:
The Giver
Mara, Daughter of the Nile
Tuck Everlasting
A Wrinkle in Time
1984
Farenheit 451
Life of Pi
Their Eyes Were Watching God
Poisonwood Bible
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency
Black Hawk Down
Crime and Punishment
Anna Karenina
I need to make a list. I'll have to get back to you on that one.
