Reasons for going

Sometimes it is so hard getting all four kids ready for church by myself, and even harder keeping them quiet and still during sacrament meeting. (David is in the bishopric and has to sit on the stand). But our Bishop's wife said something so great in her testimony last week that really hit home for me. She has ten(!) VERY difficult kids (only 6 of them are still at home), and she commented on how it's hard when she comes to church and doesn't get to hear anything because her kids are restless and she is in and out of the chapel with them, and there have been times in her life when she has wondered if she wouldn't have been better spiritually fed had she stayed home and read her scriptures or watched BYU-TV (sound familiar, anyone??). But, she said she comes to church because she loves her Savior and wants to be obedient. Really, it's that simple. I go to church because I love my Savior and I want to be obedient.

I totally agree! There have been so many times when I used to take the kids to church by myself and I would always wonder if it was worth it! But really, it is! Not only because we want to be obedient, but because we want our children to learn what is right as well. I love when my kids come home and they teach me what they have learned. It is a great feeling! Sometimes when I feel like I couldn't listen to the speakers, etc... I always come out with such a better feeling that before I entered the building! You will be blessed for your hard work in taking all 4 kids to church by yourself. The Lord really takes care of the women of the church and especially when the husbands have callings as yours does! :) Talk to Julie, she would totally understand! Although she has only one child... You have 4!

I think you have successfully survived a "trial of your faith"! Struggling at Church with four little wiggly restlesses doesn't seem to make much sense, unless you have faith in the Savior who can make any trial consecrated for your good, and the good of the children. Keep up the great work!

I am in the exact same boat. We have 9:00 church and it is nearly impossible to make it on time. Last week the morning ran so badly that I simply decided to just get the two oldest out with dad in time for church and come when I could. I have found that preparing the day before makes getting there smoother and I have the spirit better. This week I am singing in church and have to be there at 8:30. I am also teaching Gospel Doctrine. Pray for me. Dale made an interesting comment awhile back. Someone made the comment that they could feel the spirit just as well if they were in the mountains having communion with the Lord. Dale said "Yeah but who were you able to share that spirit with." We should also realize that we are at church to help share the spirit. Sometimes difficult when your three year old is driving his skateboard guy up and down the pews, but still important.
