I can't wait until I'm Eight!

On Saturday my sweet McKenna was baptized. She looked so beautiful in her little white dress. David baptized and confirmed her and various family members participated in the program. It was a wonderful day. I hope McKenna will remember the feelings she had as she made this step and will treasure them. I know I will!

Her cousin, Madison was also baptized. They've grown up together and it was special to have them share this special day.

McKenna's baptism has caused me to ponder on the job I've done raising her for the past eight years. Motherhood is the most difficult job in the whole world, not only because it is physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausting, but because the stakes are so high. I've been given eight years to love, teach, and prepare her, so that when she turned eight and reached the age of accountability she would be able to have the faith necessary to make this step. I haven't been perfect, but as I look back I am so grateful for the counsel we've been given to have family prayer, family scripture study, and family home evening. I think that it's been in those times that her faith has really developed. Of course she is still young, but she understands so much more than most of the world. She knows she is a child of God, and that he hears and answers her prayers. She knows that Jesus came to earth to suffer for our sins, and that it is because of him that we can be happy. She knows there is a living prophet. She knows that there are consequences for our actions and that we should strive to choose the right. I will continue to teach her as she grows and matures, and look forward to the future. (Although there are days I would like to freeze time and just hold her for a while). But I know that as she grows from a little girl into a young lady that she will continue to bring joy and light to my life. How I love my sweet McKenna!

She looks beautiful in her white dress! It makes me think of the song on the Women of Destiny CD about the three white dresses. I love that song. We have been thinking about McKenna a lot this past weekend as she got baptized. What a big step for her! And like you said, she is ready for it. She is a wonderful little girl who is growing up so fast. She is a sweet spirit. We are so happy to have her in our family! She is a great oldest cousin (on the Pyne side!) to set the example for her sisters and cousins. Congratulations McKenna!

What an eloquent and beautiful post. You should submit this as an Ensign article! :) Thanks for reminding us about what's most important in life. And also, yay for McKenna! She looks so beautiful in her baptism dress!

I'm so glad you wrote this about McKenna's baptism. It was a blessing for us to be there with you all for that special day! What a sacred covenant we make when we are baptized! We are so happy McKenna could make that covenant too!
